A USB connection is commonly used for interfacing to POS Systems although a keyboard (PS2) interface type is also available. Cash Registers require a serial (RS232) interface connection.
Barcode Scanner - Laser Gun "Hand-Held"
The Laser Gun "Hand-Held" Scanner is ideally suited to low & medium volume retail stores. The Laser Gun "Hand-Held" Scanner emits a single laser beam that can read barcodes up to a distance of 2cm. In other words, the barcode needs to be positioned very adjacent to the head of the scanner. Usage is by the trigger / button method. The connection to a POS System is usually via a USB interface although a PS2 Keyboard interface is available. A Serial interface is required for Cash Registers.

Stocktake Scanner
The portable stocktake scanner is a small portable unit that greatly enhances the efficiency of the stocktake process. It can also be utilised as a mobile POS unit (sales data capture device).
Stocktaking is performed by scanning an item off the shelf (or shelf label) then entering a count quantity. You can also manually enter product I.D's for out of stock items as well as retail pricing. Data is then uploaded to your computer in a fixed length text file format. The data can then be imported into your POS Software which inturn updates your stock-on-hand figures.
The stocktake scanner has a seamless interface with the Access POS Software: Retail Manager POS Software & Newsagency POS Software.
